Seller: shipwreckmarine1 (1,119) 100%, Location: Gold Coast, QLD, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 143034645768 Please see my other auctions for the RARE and UNUSUAL You are bidding on a LARGE ANTIQUE CAST IRON SCHOOL BELL. The bell has Crystal Metal cast into the cradle. I believe this was a form of cast iron, very conducive with casting bells giving a superior sounding / resonating note. The crystal metal seems to be less prone to rusting than other ferrous metals. It looks like the bell may have been painted black at some stage in its 100 plus year life, most of that paint has now gone leaving a very light surface rust in places. The bell has the No 2 cast onto the yoke, I believe this denotes a standard size. The mouth of the bell is 38 cms in diameter. The bell stands approx 67 cms tall in its cradle and at its extreme width is approx 60 cms including the bell pull handle. In the pictures you can see the clapper, it hooks into the underside of the bell, I just did not install it for the purposes of the pictures. Whether you want to use this bell in a school, church or as a beautifull garden ornament, this bell certainly makes a statement.I have been collecting Nautical pieces from around the world over the last half century including bells, firstly Ships and buoys, followed by mission, church, schools, locomotives, industrial and fire brigades. Bells just seemed to resonate with me. The craft and expertise that goes into casting a beautiful bell is astonishing, and unfortunately a dying art. The bell makers of old could cast bells of different note and a resonance only matched by a musical tuning fork. All bells have their own voice, unique and beautiful. The bell, without exception, is the one voice that everyone heeds, whether it be a distant church bell or a warning bell, everyone listens. I have been collecting bells for some 20 plus years now as part of my Nautical collecting and they still drawer me too them. The bells that I am selling could make wonderful landscape features, adorn front entrances, decorate a bar, man cave or holiday home, or go back into service, guiding ships through the dark, calling people to prayer and presiding over weddings, whatever they do, they allways enthral. I have several bells for sale at the moment, large and small, please see my other auctions. If you don’t see what you are looking for please ask, I have numerous items still to list.If you see something you like, please consider it very carefully, because once sold, I cannot replace it due to the unique and scares nature of every single piece in my collection. Every piece I am selling I purchased with a passion as only a “ Delusional and eccentric collector”, like myself can, we are simply caretakers of our collections and now it is time for me to pass on that responsibility to somebody else, perhaps you!. The pictures can better describe this antique school bell than what I can, so please perouse the pictures as they form part of the description. Please ask any and all questions, I don't pretend to be any sort of an expert in relation to antique bells, however I shall try and answer any questions you might have?
